(Cute cousins)
So, I"ll ease my way back in with some bullet points...
* I watched the Oscars and I'm so glad The Hurt Locker was recognized. I thought it was an exceptional film--I loved every second of it. I finally saw Precious last night. It was good too, although a really hard movie to watch for me. Having kids makes some things so much harder to stomach. I have yet to see The Blind Side--I'm not sure I want to. From what I'm hearing, Sandra Bullock didn't really earn her award. But, she sure looked amazing. I LOVED her dress.
* Lilly is still NOT potty trained.
* Meggan shaved Caleb's head when we were down there. It looks great. So much better.
* Our new budgeting ways have turned me into a cheapskate. I do NOT like that a box of Nilla Wafers is $4.98 at our local grocery store and ONLY $2.98 over at Wal-Mart. Ugh. I guess I'm going to start buying pantry items at the Wal-Mart.
* I'm officially NO LONGER a soda drinker. I mean, I've had a few sips here and there over the last two months or so, but I do not get in my car and drive to the gas station every night for a soda fix anymore. And I don't keep soda in my fridge. I really don't miss it.
* Sugar is still my nemesis.
* We purchased our tickets to Delaware. TWO weeks this year. And, we will be there over the 4th of July. I've never spent a 4th on a beach. I can't wait.
* I'm so sick over what California (wait...the entire USA) has let happen to our education system and consequently, our teachers, that I could throw up. Really. Half of my cohort from my my credential program were pink slipped last week and are in jeopardy of NOT working in the fall. What? These are really great, inspired teachers. I'm sad for them. And, I found out one of my mentor teachers was also pink slipped. She's been teaching for seven years and is an AMAZING teacher. I don't get it. I recently read an article in The New Yorker (and a similar one in Newsweek) that questions the purpose of the all-powerful teacher unions. In many cases, the Union ends up spending (wasting) time and more importantly, money, on teachers who are not good (no do they care to be) at their jobs. Safe is what they are. The Newsweek article went on to talk about how hard it is to fire bad teachers...So now I'm wondering what I'll do with my life once my kids are school. I feel passionate about teaching, but I DO NOT feel passionate about working for a government that doesn't see the value of a good teacher. It's maybe the most frustrating thing I've ever thought about. It's so big and messed up...it seems doomed.
* The Liberty of London line at Target is lovely. I might have found a pillow I love.
* Back to my new found cheapskate ways--I'm determined to make my own version of my favorite t-shirts (J.Crew). I was studying one today and realized that I can totally make my own. I'm reluctant to jump on the craft bandwagon, but if my shirts turn out cute, I'm over it. I have some fabric already, so I just need to figure out what I'm going to do and find some quality t-shirts to do it to. Hmm...ignore my grammatically incorrect sentences, huh?

I've been debating on whether to see Precious or not. I want to, but I don't. I already know it is going to give me a sick feeling, or make me bawl because people really live that life, but I like stories about overcoming.
good to see you back jen!
can you make me a j.crew look alike? i'll pay you!
can't wait to hear what else you have to say...
lilly isn't potty trained and lila isn't sleep trained. what are we going to do with these girls??? i have just about had it!

Jen, first off, we have missed you and the blog..2nd, you say the kindest things about us teachers.. yes CA has really messed up, but I still enjoy going to work everyday, and finally... NO. MORE. SODA.??? really?? I am so so proud of you!!!
This is precious.
I always thought Walmart was way cheaper than Target, but I have been doing some comparisons and Target is actually almost exactly the same and is actually a lot cheaper than my regular grocery store on a lot of staples like peanut butter and stuff. So that makes me feel way better about avoiding Walmart.
