Kick me when I'm down...

Hmmm. I don't even know where to start.

How about when I decided to wean myself off of my antidepressant. It turns out I'm that woman/mother/wife after all--the one who needs to be medicated. I tried the alternative--not being medicated--and it's not working for me. Without going into too much detail, I've had a tough couple of weeks.

And then yesterday happened.

-My car was towed. It cost me $320 to get it back. All because I was trying to save $10 in parking. Lesson learned.

-Lilly was playing with my wedding band and just as she handed it to Ryan, he sneezed and it went down the side of the sofa. The sofa totally ate it. I'm not kidding. We COULD NOT see it, get it, find it. It was gone. After flipping the sofa over a few times, trying to get into nooks and crannies that were accessible, it was pretty obvious that my ring was not coming out without someone taking my sofa apart.

Sigh.

The guys came, they (very carefully, but still) sliced open the underside of my (fairly new and leather) sofa. They left to get more tools. They came back. They got my ring.

And then Ryan wrote them a check.

I had a very expensive weekend. And just when I was starting to really make some headway on my new monthly budget. Needless to say, I was a disaster yesterday.

Alas!

I've finished my dresser and it is now in its new home in my bedroom. I can't seem to get a good photo of it. I didn't take any "after" photos while it was outside, so it looks a little orange. I can't wait until everything I put downstairs no longer casts an orange glow. One day soon, I hope. Anyway...I lined the larger drawers in blue/gray striped paper and the smaller drawers I lined in this awesome paper that has tiny Eiffel Towers printed all over it. The dresser itself is painted a very light gray. For my first major furniture project, I'm pretty proud of it. It took me forever because I wanted it to look perfect. It's not perfect, but it's pretty close.

Next on my project list is painting my bedside table white and finishing my gallery wall--the one I started about a year ago. AND! Don't forget about my little upholstery project. I'm going to work on getting that on the books soon. Missy just posted about her plans to make her first quilt. Maybe I should do one with her. My mom is a major quilter, by the way. And some of the new designer fabric is awesome. I do have some here to put a few pillows together for Fall. See, now my wheels are turning and I'll dream about fabric instead of getting the rest I need to start the week.

And did I mention how Caleb has to have dress-up on whenever Lilly does? Ah, yes. Today it was the tutu.

I'm so sorry you had such a rough week, Jen. Those days it's not even worth trying to find the silver lining...it just ain't there!! Glad things are looking up.

The dresser is amazing!!!! Great job. It's beautiful and looks really nice in your room.

I love furniture makeovers. You did great!

I think it is pretty common for little boys with older sisters to dress in girl dress ups. We've had multiple nephews do the same.

That Cal is so handsome!

It's really funny / sad that your couch ate your ring. Why do these things happen to nice people?! Seriously. Especially in "icing on the cake" situations?

Sometimes we aren't meant to be weaned off of anything, right? Hang in there (& do whatever you need to do to feel your happy / healthy self).

Your dresser looks amazing. Where did you get the paper for the inside? Was it sticky? Like wallpaper? I like that idea. My ikea dresser in the nursery came pre-lined in yellow / white stripes. I love it. And that I didn't have to do it myself, although I would have. I kind of want to line the bookshelf in the nursery... but am not crafty in the least. Hmm.

Mr. C really is so dapper, even in a tutu. He's such a handsome little boy.

I had a car towed in Seattle once. $250 to get it out, & a phone call to my dad because he was on the title. Oops. At least you're an adult with no one to get mad at you except yourself.

Here's to Monday & a happier week.

Jen that Caleb is seriously a handsome little man! And your dresser came out great! Orange glow? Our house casts a yellow/gold glow on everything. I hate it, too.
And as for being kicked when you are down... why does that happen?
I'm hoping the medication helps you. History has shown that I, too, seem to have the hardest time when things don't go according to plan. When things spiral from bad to worse I often can't cope and spin into freak out mode. One thing that has helped me lately, is to accept that bad days, even as bad as yours, are going to happen. And they truly will be over before you know it... and most likely they will leave a little dent ($$ or otherwise) and it is a matter of looking forward and not back.
I got a letter Friday from Sac County that I never paid my supplemental tax bill when I bought my first house six years ago. It was around $500 at the time I guess but the letter in the mail said I owed $2,400 in back taxes (hello, interest and penalties)! Let's just say that wasn't in our budget for the year! And then Bob pointed out we could have used the money to buy four tickets to Hawaii...
Just know you aren't alone!

oh i love your dresser! it's got such a romantic little silhouette--great job.

ryan's ring (my ryan :) fell off one day while he was washing his hands. we heard it hit the floor but then it disappeared. it was NO WHERE. finally we realized it had bounced into a tiny little hole under the cabinets. how? why? almost had to tear the cabinets out to get it back.

so sorry for your week--when it rains, it pours, huh?

Ok. Next time Cal wants to dress up in a tutu, at least keep the dude's dignity and put a backwards baseball cap on his head or something. :)

I once got my car locked in a parking garage over a weekend in San Francisco. $180 later, I got my car out Monday morning. So stupid.

I always get so mad at myself when I do really stupid things that end up costing me a lot of money that I don't have.

Hope this week is better for you!

(Cal is so, SO cute)

You and millions of other people in the world. Hope this week turns better Jen...I will echo what everyone else has to say and harness the bad days for what they are. And pick up what is left over and start anew the next day. One thing we can always count on right? The bad days will eventually end and a new one will begin.

Let's talk about your dresser though. And how incredible amazed I am! You are now one of THOSE women that can redo an old piece of furniture and make one covetous. Beautiful.

The dresser and Cal. And you! Did I tell you I love your profile pic? I think I did...

This dresser is amazing. I saw it in person. I couldn't believe she turned a D.I find into that! I wouldn't even know where to start. Probably Google.

Cal? So Cute. And he's getting so big.
