This is getting old...

Lilly has ANOTHER cold. What am I supposed to do? Never leave the house? I'm so sure. Cal has yet to get a bad cold (knock on wood) and here is Lilly catching every virus out there. I've been so diligent about having her wash her hands lately too. I feel defeated. I'm worried that it's going to be a very long winter for us.

Maybe I should stick her in a bubble.

That's so sad.

I'm hoping I can cut this one off at the pass and avoid the nasty chest infections she gets. I shouldn't have put the nebulizer away yesterday--I probably jinxed myself. The ONLY good thing I can take from this latest round of germs is that I'd rather deal with it now. Because next week we are going to DISNEYLAND. I LOVE D-Land during Halloween. It think I prefer it over Christmas. And, I don't want her to have to be in quarantine instead of playing with her cousins.

We went to the bookstore this morning instead of the gym. In fact, we've only been to the gym once this week. I'm in trouble if I can't get a little more exercise. I guess I'll have to resort to jogging around the block once Ryan gets home. Sounds miserable. But, the bookstore. Lilly loves it. I love it too, but it's not the same kind of trip when you have a toddler and an infant with you. There is no leisurely browsing--there is no browsing at all. Unless you count kickin' it at the train table for a bit. Let's not think about all the germs that are crawling on that thing. Ugh. Our B&N has the best kids section and the employees are always so kind and helpful. They could care less (or at least fake it well) when Lilly decides to carry all 14 copies of Llama Llama Mad at Mama over to the table. Or when she piles up every Dora book she can find. They are almost done with the construction of a brand new county/city library less than a mile away from us! It's beautiful and I can't wait to teach Lilly all about how wonderful libraries are. She'll for sure be getting her own library card.

The train table--I used to think I wouldn't be so crazy about germs--so anti. I'd just go with the flow and deal. Kids are dirty and they get sick, end of story. And then I had a kid who got sick at the drop of a hat. Now I hate germs and I'm starting to get vigilant about staying away from people, places, and things that carry them. And I'm not even talking about H1N1--just normal, everyday germs.

Cal is officially sleeping through the night. Like 12 hours straight. It's lovely. Of course, just as he's settling into a routine, Lilly has decided to go berserk. She's fighting us at bedtime and often up once or twice a night for no particular reason. But, I'm not complaining. I'll take it.

It's silent in my house right now. They were both screaming like crazy a few minutes ago, but I took a deep breath, told myself they needed to sleep, and let them work it out on by themselves. They must have figured it out because I don't hear anything now.

I bought a butternut squash last night. I LOVE ordering anything with butternut squash at restaurants, but I've never prepared anything with one on my own. I want to puree some for Caleb. Turns out butternut squash has this ridiculously tough outer skin--you have to be Super Man to get to the edible part. Or, you have to have a serrated peeler, which I do not. So, do I get the serrated peeler, or do I give the squash away as a gift? It was $5.19--that's not a cheap squash. What to do?

I know, really major conundrums over here.

Oh wait. They are both screaming again.

We are living on the same planet - I have a squash in my fridge, not totally sure what to do with it. I wanted to make it with salmon but it is hard to cut! Does the serrated peeler get all the skin off those bad boys though?

I don't have a B&N or Borders near me. We do have a great 70's-ish library though. She'll love the library story times.

I loved this post, Jen. I love the way you write...like we're in the middle of a conversation and that makes me happy. :)

I get you with the bookstore thing. I love them, but it is so not as enjoyable (if i am wanting to leisurely browse) when I have kids with me!

Depending on how you plan to prepare it you can put the whole butternut in your microwave and zap it for a very short while. Then you can easily cut into it. We don't have a microwave so I peel it first then cut it. I have a delicious and easy butternut squash gratin recipe. Fresh breadcrumbs and gruyere! I will share it. I am asked to make it every Thanksgiving! Hope Lilly gets better so she can have a blast at the Happiest/germiest place on earth!!!

I say roast it with a little olive oil, salt and pepper... yum! Maybe no salt and pepper for Cal. Then again, maybe he'll like it. He did eat my chicken suprise the other night.

Try carrying those Clorox disinfecting wipes where you go and just wipe off the cart or the bookstore table or whatever. It's quick and easy. My mom brought some to disneyland and would just wipe off the handles on the rides as we got on. It's not too big of a pain and maybe will help?

Can't wait to see you guys. It's been a hot topic around here for a couple weeks now.

I agree - squash is so good, yet such a freaking pain. I never cook with it for that reason. Don't have a serrated peeler either. Good Christmas gift idea to give the fam actually...
