Minesooooota...

Our trip to Minneapolis was interesting. We were there for less than 24 hours, so we didn't get much time to check out the city. But what we did see was very nice and a little reminiscent of Chicago.

I about died when we pulled up to our hotel and saw that it was right across the street from Target headquarters! I got a little giddy. I made Ryan walk a few blocks so we could go into one of the biggest Targets in the country! Fun.

Snow...it's visible from the air

Target Headquarters--Downtown Minneapolis

We had dinner at a quaint little local restaurant. Every time I looked outside I'd see all the snow on the ground and wonder..."Where am I again?...Oh yeah, I'm in MINNESOTA." It was a strange feeling. I kept thinking about Garrison Keillor and A Prairie Home Companion.

Me and Ry

The reason we went, the play, left a lot to be desired. We saw Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen. It's sort of Ibsen's "black sheep"--meaning, it's unlike any of his other work. The play was too long (3 hours) and very confusing. Ryan, who enjoys most theatre, was miserable most of the first act and all of the second act. Although the play didn't work from an audience perspective, I still really enjoyed watching Mark Rylance perform. In fact, I didn't really pay attention to anything but him for most of the production.

We were there on the play's first night--the first night of reviews--even before "Opening Night." Our seats were good-the last row on the orchestra level. Funny enough, the director and his assistant were sitting on my right and throughout the entire show, I was privy to all their moans, groans, and hoorays regarding what was going wrong and what was going right. It was very interesting.

The theatre itself is a beautiful space. It's new, and the architecture is very cool.

It was an adventure...but I think we'll wait until the reviews come out before we travel across the country to see more theatre.

Sorry you were a little disappointed. The production was not perfect, no. But I believe Mark's reasons for spearheading this production and to have it done at the Guthrie in Minnesota was truly a selfless act done for the large Norwegian descendants of the area. I look to the man as artist. I believe an true artist is a giver and for which Mark is a beautiful example.

And how about that Guthrie Theatre! Wow what an architecturally amazing space(s)!

Definitely cool that you had that adventure even if it was "interesting." I like that you just went for it.

I love that you guys went and I'm glad you enjoyed Mark Rylance even if the play was a letdown. Fun times and memories and nice to have a break!
