Well, things are starting to look up for us around here. The last few weeks have been...um...what's the word...
CURSE OF THE DAMNED.
That's four words, but close enough.
Things started to go south for us way back at Thanksgiving. We did mange to have a great time in Utah, but I think we paid for our little journey to The Land of Really Cold Air. Lilly and I had been bitten by the head cold bug and were starting to feel it as soon as we got home. Once again, no one told me that it's just cold after cold after cold the first year of parenthood. I always feel so bad for Lilly when she gets a cold. There isn't much I can do for her and the poor thing can't breathe. I can at least OD on Nyquil, but she can't.
The cold was just the beginning.
December 15th, 2007 will live forever in my brain as the day that my sweet, sweet daughter woke up in real vomit. Chunky vomit. Ryan and I had gotten in some stupid argument earlier in the night and so he was out at the movies decompressing. I was alone with Lilly and her first big kid vomit experience. I quickly got her out of her crib and proceeded to get her into the tub, but on the way, the puke kept coming. And coming. I was trying not to cry at this point, but not doing a very good job. To make a long and gross story short, Lilly, Ryan, and I were up all night.
I think what followed the vomit...and lasted for the next seven days...was worse than the actual puke. Lilly's little gastrointestinal system was a mess. We tried to venture out of the house a few times, but we never knew when the diarrhea was going to make an appearance, so it was always a gamble. A bet we lost a few times. This was when the perpetual laundry and 5 baths a day thing was starting to wear on me.
Anyway...Ryan is watching Transformers right now and he's totally into it. I think he should be embarrassed about that. Just a little.
So, while Lilly was getting over her sickness, she infected everyone she came in contact with. Including (and in sequential order): Ryan, Juice, Christian, Brianne, My Dad, My Mom. There's probably a handful of others who thought their life was over for a miserable 24 hours, but we don't know about them. It was a nasty bug and got everyone we visited during Christmas.
By Christmas, Lilly seemed to be over the stomach bug, but she still wasn't sleeping well and seemed really fussy. After TWO really long and sleepless nights at my parents house, I called and got her an appointment with her doctor. I needed someone to tell me she was sick and I wasn't losing all this sleep and any sanity I had left after the flu week from hell, for nothing.
Sure enough, the kid had an earache and an infection in her lungs which required we take a nebulizer home with us for hourly breathing treatments.
We are now just about finished with a round of antibiotics and a couple of boxes of Albuterol.
Ryan and I are tired.
And looking forward to a healthy 2008.

O man I am glad you finally got to the dr. I babysat my niece and nephew this past summer and my neice (18 months) had the same throwing up thing- all the way to the bathtub. So, I feel a little more prepared for parenthood after that night.
Oh wow. Colds + arguments + throw up flu? Goodbye 2007. I'm sure you are happy to have a new, fresh start your way.
Oh Jen. How miserable for you guys! I'm glad things are looking up now...The pic of Lilly is too adorable.
