I've driven back and forth between Sacramento and Redding about a million times. The radio stations never get any better than sucky. I usually try to download a book to my ipod or grab something new to listen to. But, I usually forget and I'm stuck flipping through the five country stations--the only stations that aren't fuzzy and are consistent.
Last night, as I was driving home from a quick visit to my parents, I found myself sick of the Joshua Radin cd I've listening to for the last two weeks and in desperate need of something else. As I flipped through the stations, I found Garth.
I'm not a country music fan and I never have been. I like the new Carrie Underwood song--the one about the cheating boyfriend--but that's about as far as my country repertoire goes.
But...
Everyone knows a little Garth Brooks. As I drove south on I-5, past the rice fields, through Tehama and Glenn counties, rocking out to "Friends in Low Places," it struck me how funny it was that we (meaning a lot of us) know MOST OF the words to MOST OF Garth Brooks' songs.
What is it with the guy and his songs? They're like American anthems or something.
Admit it. You know the words to a couple of his tunes.

Well I am way more into country than you so I may know the lyrics to all Garth's songs. I wish he was still recording, he is an American classic.
I love Garth (except that he left his wife for Trisha...). I know some of the words- maybe even most. Love it.
And by the way- are you still reading my blog? I never got your email address to "sign you up". Email me if you want in- khwhiting@yahoo.com
Hi Jen- I'm in love with Garth and I agree that there is definitely something about his music. Not to mention he's pretty sexy! Look at that picture!! :) fun to read your blog, I've been away too long.
