My friend, Heidi, posted about what she should wear to a wedding this summer and I was reminded of my own dressing dilemma. Although, mine isn't as glamorous as what to wear to a wedding.
Oh no.
Instead, it's: What should I pack for the hospital?
I realize I'll be wearing a hospital gown for the nitty-gritty part of the whole thing, but what should I wear AFTERWARDS? Should I bring my Jo-Lo outfit, or should I wear pajama bottoms from Old Navy?
I don't know.
I do know that the reality of having to push this baby out of me has set in. I've never stayed the night in a hospital. I've only made trips to the Emergency Room a time or two for VERY minor issues. And, I've only been a visitor in other hospital visits. I'm not looking forward to the hospital. I'd really prefer to blink my eyes a few times and be back in our cozy little apartment with our baby and my own bed linens.
I think it's the waiting that's the worst. Knowing it could happen at ANY SECOND is not comforting. I'd prefer to know exactly when it's happening so I could mentally prepare for it.
I'm nervous. So, so, so nervous.

I'd go with the Old Navy pajama bottoms, something that is easy to replace in case it gets...stained.
Take stuff that you would if you were staying overnight somewhere. You should be able to go home after a day or two.
I just realized that it is March 3rd. You could have baby Lilly soon!
I don't know much about having a child, let alone what to wear afterward, but I would agree with Missy on taking clothing that is possible disposable...
The best advice I was given, was to bring hard candies you can suck on. Once you are admitted, NO FOOD, only liquids. Since I was in labor at the hospital for 26 hours I really appreciated the Life Savors and lemon drops I brought. Also, I love the idea of bringing a new "smell" like lotion for the baby or a new perfume for you etc... that way whenver you smell it for the rest of your life it will remind you of those precious new moments.
Let me recommend Bobbi Brown baby lotion. BY FAR the best and most amazing baby lotion made, hands down!
Oh and I brought my own pillow from home.
Love you,
Kelly
Comfort, comfort and comfort. Just remember that you will still be wanting maternity type clothing for a time after the baby. So just remember to bring something you are able to where now, because unfortunately your stomach won't be shrinking as much as you may want it to. (Right away at least)
Oh and I don't know if your hospital is doing this but if they are not be sure to do it when you get home. What I'm talking about is a wet baby diaper, frozen. For you, not Lilly. It works really great in the hospital mesh undies you can get and sooooooo soothing.
Nadia is right - comfort and the frozen pads (or diaper, never heard of that though) that have been dipped in witch hazel. Witch hazel will help you feel better and the frozen...very soothing.
I like the lotion idea too.
The mesh underwear they give you is nice b/c you don't worry about it, but if you bought some cheap underwear, that would be good too.
Go with the Old Navy bottoms.
I almost had a nervous breakdown when they told me I had to stay in the hospital for one more day because Dylan was having trouble breathing. So, I was there for two nights and almost three days total. I know excactly what you mean about wanting to be back in the own comfort of your home. You may be able to leave within 24 hours, so hope for that!
The girls ask me everyday if Lilly has been born yet. We can't wait! Are you getting an epidural?
