From the the day I found out I was pregnant, I've been

I'd like for it to be functional and fashionable. I don't want it to be too babyish--no cartoon characters or the like. Because I'll be carrying it everywhere I go, everyday, I'm really fretting over my decision. Plus, they aren't cheap.
I have a few contenders...
I like the Kate Spade messenger bag, but it's pricey. I have a few real Kate Spades and a few fakes and since the fake bags look so good, it hurts to think about paying retail for a baby bag. I also like the 2 Red Hens bag. I'm not sure which color scheme I'd go with though. There are a million of them. I posted one of my favorites. The next bag, the LeSportSac, is where I'm leaning now. I really like it-I'd get one that is all black, no white like the photo. They do make an actual baby bag, but their messenger bag is the same size and much, much cheaper. Finally, the Fleurville bag. It's cute, pink, and functional. I only like the pink one--I'm not crazy about their other patterns. Although not pictured, I LOVE Target bags. However, they don't have one I like right now that would work as a baby bag. I need a long strap, that's just the way it is. I did get this bag with the hopes it might work as a baby bag, but after carrying it for a few days, I can tell it won't.
So, I've now posted about my big dilemma and revealed my petty, materialistic side. I'm embarrassed that this decision has taken up so much of my life. But, in my defense, I will say that every other choice I've had to make about our baby--including her name, room specs, and needed gear--I've made with the greatest of ease. For whatever reason, this baby bag thing is really tripping me up.

So funny! I had this problem too. I started with a petunia pickle bottom, then went on to the Fleurville mothership bag (which sits in my closet, I used it, oh, about 3 times). Then finally, a friend of mine told me the greatest way to keep warm water warm in a bottle for when you go out (to be mixed with formula later).
You wrap the bottle in a diaper.
After that, I had no need for the insulation compartment in baby bags. I ended up getting a bigger purse and it was over. Amen.
I wish my Fleurville was pink so I could send it to you. It is the black and white houndstooth. It does have bright pink interior though?
I always think about diaper bags as well and I don't even have a bun in the oven.
My only advice is to go with a bag that compliments you and your style... not your baby's. Seems like you are on the right track.
I simply want to plead with you, dear woman wife of mine, that you not buy a bunch and then decide which you like. You said you bought one already and don't like it. Is that getting returned?
I am, as we speak, getting ready to shove my blackberry down my throat and hang myself by my tie, because I hate what I'm having to work on right now and the people here are driving me effing bananas.
So please don't buy multiple bags so I have to stay here working forever.
Unless, I can successfully start a business selling useless gypsy scarves at swap meets, and then I can be happy.
No idea Jen. I always wnated a Petunia Pickle: backpack AND long strappy combined. Think about that one more.
Honestly, I bet you end up switching bags several times and occasionally throwing things in small bag you have right now b/c you are running to the store and who wants to carry an entire diaper bag into the store.
My experience? I went with a Timbuk2 bag b/c I wanted to be outdoorsy and didn't want a real diaper bag, liked the look and got pro deal. Then, I realized the long strap did not work for me. It always fell off my shoulder. I got frustrated.
Went with a Patagonia backpack that is spill proof, bright green and compartamentalized and LOVE it.
Up to you. Go with your style though and I would probably veer from pink. Maybe you'll have a boy someday. I say borrow Kelly's houndstooth one and see how you like the Fleureville one.
I am so glad you are going through this, too because I thought I was the only one. I am already looking online trying to find one I like...that won't cost me an arm and a leg! I love the kate spades, but very pricey. The 2 Red Hens bags are very fun and original. I do like Kelly's advice of just getting a bigger purse.
I would just go with what you want - your tried and true style -and even if you do buy 4 or 5 you can always return those that don't work for you! Whatever you decide, keep us posted because I need some help!
I am no help either because I look to you for any sort of fashion advice. I use a plain Oakley backpack and it works great. The thing I've learned is that you really don't need a big bag and you might regret it once you buy it. It's such a pain to lug around. Your Target bag that you got really might work. Maybe you should wait until after she gets here? Because everyone does things differently. I usually carry light and keep spare diapers/wipes/outfits in the car just in case. But I am definitely more on the simple end of things.
I'm with Meggan on this one. Keep it simple. The ol' wrap the bottle in a cloth diaper idea goes way back and still works! Actually, I also like the back pack idea - easy, plenty of room and there are some that are very stylish. The bags with the long handles are a pain....hurt your shoulder and are constantly falling off -
How about something that rolls!!! You could start a whole new trend!! (mmmm...maybe a business idea here...Rolling Diaper Bags)
