We live in apartments, here in Sacramento. Overall, we like where we live--for apartment living. There are lots of trees and we are very close to downtown and the capitol. I've blogged about my Indian neighbors before and the strange smells wafting up through the vents and also about the strange noises the dad makes.
I HAVE NOT however, blogged about the new noises coming from my walls. On the other side of our bedroom wall is a mirror image of our very own apartment. So, we share bedroom walls with other people. Got it? A few weeks ago as I was laying in bed typing away on my computer, I noticed a rhythmic sound coming through the wall--it sounded like someone was hammering something. It took me a minute, but I quickly realized that I was not hearing light construction work coming from the wall behind me. Oh no. I was hearing sex.
Yes, I know. Gross.
As an adult, and someone who is married AND pregnant, I'm aware that sex goes on. However, hearing it, and knowing it is going on just on the other side of my wall is too much for me.
The first time I heard it, I wasn't POSITIVE it was sex, so I put my ear up to the wall.
BIG MISTAKE.
I'm not embarrassed that I went in for a closer listen--I had to know for sure what was going on over there. Now I know.
And almost EVERY NIGHT since!!!!! I don't know these people (and now I never want to know them), but they are having a lot of sex. Last weekend, the noises woke me up at 5am! That's not their usual routine, so it surprised me.
Anyway, that's my latest complaint about apartment living. Actually, it's not a complaint as much as a "what the &**(((%%$." I mean, what am I supposed to do?
I was reminded by someone at work who I was telling this story to (not a student), that if I can hear them...you get the idea.

Wow, that is hilarious yet disgusting. Not sex, but hearing another person's sex. eeew!
I used to live in a big house with 10 other girls. There was a newly married couple that lived in the basement of this house and we would hear them having sex all the time. It'd be like 3 in the afternoon and they'd be having sex with at least 11 people listening and laughing upstairs. Funny. Michelle can vouch, she lived there too.
That is so funny Jen. The way you tell it is even better. I love you know their routine. 5 am sex is a little too much for me and I'm not even sharing the wall with them.
And Bri! How embarrasing for that married couple. I can't even imagine.
I haven't had that experience yet (although I am sure I will, living in a condo now) but once I went visiting teaching to this apartment complex where the walls and doors were so thin! Before I knocked on the door of the girls apartment we were supposed to visit, my companion and I were talking to each other about what in the world was going on inside - there was a lot of noise and..well, just as you described it. We thought it was the tv, but oh no. As soon as we knocked it stopped and they wouldn't answer the door. needless to say, she hasn't let us come in to visit since because she is so embarrased!
Jen -this is too funny. I love reading your posts. You are a much funnier and exciting pregnant person than I am.
Well, since I live in a condo (with walls as thin as paper), I might as well add to the story, I was once woken up at 1:30 in the morning by my neighbors "eh, eh, eh" noises... that went on for well over 2 hours... I was tempted to leave a note, cuz she is a really nice girl, but I thought that might embarass her more...
Um, I'm sorry. I'm not sure how to respond this blog.
