My new best friend...

Turns out that Tums really work. I've never chewed on them in my life...until now. They taste like chalk, but berry flavored chalk!

I've been having some very unpleasant bouts of heartburn lately. I didn't even know what heartburn was until I started reading about it in my pregnancy books. It seems like as soon as I read about some crazy pregnancy symptom, it's only minutes until it begins to take over my body.

I'll admit it now (in case you haven't figured it out yet) I'm NOT one of those women who will ever say, "Oh, I just LOVED being pregnant!" It's not that I hate it, but I certainly don't love it. It's definitely an adventure--I'm intrigued by all the crazy things that are going on with my body--but it's not one that I've learned to love. Although, I'm sure the end result is well worth the drama.

I've also been thinking about how lucky it is that I've been so busy for the last few months, because the last few days of lounging around have given me nothing to do BUT focus on the strange and uncomfortable things I'm feeling. Entertaining/teaching 80 high schoolers for 4 hours a day seems to take my mind off all of the uncomfortableness of pregnancy. So, without school to keep me busy, the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy should be really lovely.

Sigh.

Ryan's sleeping. We are on completely opposite sleep schedules right now. He's been napping during the day and playing Xbox all night. He deserves to have some fun--he has to go back to work tomorrow. Ugh.

I love tums.. you need to get the little roll packs and stash them in your purse, school bag, well pretty much everywhere. You will need one right at the moment, you don't have any, or the bottle is at home.. trust me, you'll thank me for this tip!

What does Tums do?

They say heartburn is a sign of a baby that has a lot of hair. I only had it a couple times and I had no idea what was going on with me. All I could explain was that my chest was burning and I was really uncomfortable. I found out later it's called heartburn. Good to know you can take Tums while pregnant.

Anyone who likes being pregnant is a bit off in my opinion. Who in their right mind likes all that uncomfortableness?

Hi Jen -
Congratulations on finishing your student teaching with your sanity intact. It is one of those experiences from which one may draw strength in years to come, as in "If I made it through that ordeal, I can definitely handle this situation!"
Anyway, while you still have some "me time," check out a little jewel of an indep. film that is currently playing on HBO: "Everything is Illuminated." This Amazon blog review pretty much sums it up:

Great for everyone, December 11, 2006
Reviewer: A. Tuttle "true news" (Nashville, TN) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
"The review by Joyce Carol Oates of Jonathan Safran Foer's novel ("he will win your admiration, and he will break your heart"), is equally fitting for the movie version of Everything is Illuminated. I happened to catch the movie at the Nashville Jewish Film Festival and was able to convince my boyfriend (who usually does not enjoy reading or my quirky taste in entertainment) to come along with me. We were both laughing out loud through a large portion of the movie but also found ourselves thoroughly impressed with the sweeping landscape views (it's worth watching this movie just to see the sunflowers at Augustine's house) and the tasteful seriousness of history being portrayed. As a surprise to me, he enjoyed the story so much that he decided our future dog should be named Sammy Davis Junior Junior. Even though neither of us is Jewish, this movie made us both reflect- on the oft-untold pieces of history, family, and memories. Rarely do I enjoy a movie as much as its book counterpart, but this was a great addition to the story I fell in love with and a commendable interpretation of Safran Foer's unique and brilliant writing style."
Delynn will laugh if she reads this because I just recommended it to her!
Also, "Bobby" is definitely worth seeing from an historical, political and humanistic POV, and with an engaging and complex plot line, "Deja Vu" also has lots of action and Denzel Washington The Heids went to see this twice, and I wouldn't mind seeing it again!

Anyway, enjoy these special last weeks of couplehood. Being a family is wonderful, but definitely an extended trip to another planet...
